Code of Ethics

NAEYC
I-2.6
This principle is important to my professional life because to keep children from being confused as to what's good and what's bad the facility and parents are working together. That way children have less behavioral issues and parents get a chance to be proactive with their children while they are at school.
P-4.3
This is especially important to me because so many facilities hire people for who they know instead of what they know. I feel as though qualification should override relationships. Centers would be better off with more qualified individuals.

DEC
We shall demonstrate our respect and appreciation for all families’ beliefs, values, customs, languages, and culture relative to their nurturance and support of their children toward achieving meaningful and relevant priorities and outcomes families’ desire for themselves and their children.
This is special to me because families need to feel as though their child's learning environment is working alongside them for better development in the child. Families and centers should work together for children and I believe it helps in their development.

References
—We shall carefully check references and shall not hire or recommend for employment any person whose competence, qualifications, or character makes him or her unsuited for the position.
—To acknowledge families’ childrearing values and their right to make decisions for their children.

  1. I agree completely with you about the importance of hiring competent professionals. If I had any children and had them in day care I would want to know that the people working with my child are capable of doing their job. I want to know that the people working their are providing my child with appropriate knowledge and skills and also being professional. If my day care ever gets big enough some day that I am able to hire people I will definitely be looking at people who have the knowledge base and skills to do the job, not just hire friends who need a job.

  2. I hear ya about hiring people for qualifications. There is a whole lot of people at work who are related to one another. Though they are good at what they do and all that - its irks me a little. It makes me wonder if other people applied for these jobs without the benefit of an inside connection who may have been better for the job.
